Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is meant to help people with their emotional issues, which can range in order of their severity or intensity. The main aim of this form of therapy is to change the quality of life by defining the path of life, taking ownership of one’s life and identity, and bringing in more clarity to the role of the external environment on the sense of self and wellbeing. Dr. Jams believes that mental health challenges are an interplay between the internal and the external, particularly where the internal, such as how one feels as a felt-sense about themselves, may be in conflict with the external, such as a family pressures or expectations or even societal norms, pressures, and expectations. Other internal factors are genetics, the state of one’s nervous system, brain function, level of resilience, etc. Individual counseling can help the client build their resilience and re-write a new script for who they are in this world and how they navigate their relationship with the external world.
There are times when we need to push back against external pressures, which may include engaging in social justice, while there are other times when we need to have radical acceptance of who we are, accepting our limitations and having self-compassion for ourselves. In counseling, the client can process the different parts of their themselves and their lives that are incongruent, and decide what they need to do – whether to make an internal change, to push back against external pressures, or to have radical acceptance of who they are and/or their surrounding environment.
There are many emotional issues that find a corner in our heart, and refuse to die down. With time, these issues can transform into a sort of emotional tumor that impacts negatively on our daily life, such as lack of concentration, enthusiasm, self respect, will to change, encouragement, and so on. These issues can spiral into our lives in various ways and gets channelled into other zones, which can create problems in the relationships, professional life, and health. Dr. Jams will work with you to address the root cause of the problem after careful and compassionate listening.
