Welcome to Rose City Therapeutics
The mission at Rose City Therapeutics is to help clients navigate their mental health challenges by addressing both intrinsic and extrinsic factors that underlie these challenges. Intrinsic factors include individual characteristic that may be genetically-based, as well as the functionality of the brain and nervous system. Extrinsic factors include the environment in which the individual grew up and lives in currently, as well, including the impacts of family-of-origin and society. Neurocounseling is a relatively new theoretical framework of mental health counseling that uses neuroscience and brain health to conceptualize and treat mental health challenges. Some interventions of neurocounseling include neurpsychoeducation, neurofeedback, other brain-focused activities such as cognitive training, movement and balance training, mindfulness training, and more.

Play is a great tool through which children can learn to self-regulate better. To fit the needs and interests of the child, Dr.Jams uses both relational and behavioral approaches to play therapy, incorporating some elements of neurocounseling in which the game or play activity targets the function of specific brain regions that may be dysregulated in the child. In this way and through co-regulation with the counselor, the child is able to learn better self-regulation as well as relational tools to improve their quality of life at home, in school and other social settings.
